The Star Wars Messenger Bag Saga: The beginning

So my sister is starting college in a few weeks and I am creating for her a bag worthy of our nerdy family.  A messenger bag made of fabric that is made to look like ship blueprints for the Empire.

Now, simmer down family, we are not Empire lovers it is just an uber cool print. After I sew it up I am going to be putting on either an R2-D2 patch or screen printing the droid on, since he is my sister’s favorite character in pretty much anything.

This video is the source of my pattern and direction.

So today I started cutting out the fabric. I had pre-cut paper pattern pieces before but they had gotten all jacked up so I had to redraft them directly onto the fabric as I cut. Tomorrow I need to cut out the lining and interfacing and do the interfacing. Hopefully I’ll get to start sewing before I have to go in to work because once I actually start sewing this project won’t take me more then an hour.

Here, have some pictures yo.

Some finished projects

Because I have to post something on here to pass the time until I get to work on my next sewing item.

These are only a few of my more recent completed projects. So from oldest to newest we have:

My Teal and Lace Prom Dress:

There is a vast gap between the first and last two projects year wise and I have made several other garments and items in the intervening time, but this is all I have pictures of so it will have to do for now.

Obligatory Introduction Post

Because there has to be a ‘first post’ at some point.

So this is going to be my sewing progression blog. Usually I just post finished garments up on my Tumblr blog and my Cut Out and Keep profile but I didn’t really have a place to catalog my step by step work. One of my favorite pass times when I am not sewing or reading or writing or raising various types of hell with my friends is to look at what other people are sewing.

So I watch a lot of DIY youtube videos, my favorite of which being the lovely Threadbanger, and reading people’s sewing blogs. So finally I decided I would just make my own.

This is going to really be my general sewing go to blog. Where I will talk about sewing, review things about sewing…and even occasionally post about things that I am or have sewn!

So yeah, that’s a thing. Welcome and stuff.
